Beatrice E. Schmalz formerly of Whitesboro Beatrice E. (Pidgeon) Schmalz, 93, of New Hartford, passed away in her sleep at the Sitrin Rehab Center on February 1, 2007. Beatrice was born in Tupper Lake, NY on November 25, 1913, the daughter of Edmund and Josephine Grenier. She was married to Frederick W. Pidgeon in September 1939, until his death in October of 1968. Beatrice and Fred had four children: Beverly A. of San Jose, CA, married to Tom Higa, with two sons, Gregory and Scott; Gloria J. of Utica, married to Albert Janicki, with two sons, Christopher Janicki and his wife, Amy, Eric Janicki and his wife, Dawn; Nancy C. of New Hartford, married to Thomas Hyatt, with one son, Jason Hyatt and his wife, Kim; and a son, Walter Pidgeon, who predeceased her. Walter was married to Gerry Collins, with three children, Michele and her husband, Bill Daisey, Jeremy Pidgeon and his wife, Nicole, and Kimberly Pidgeon. She was blessed with ten great-grandchildren. Beatrice also has a special foster son, Bill Bliss, married to Jeanette, residing in Westmoreland, NY. Beatrice married Francis H. Schmalz in May 1973, and he predeceased her in May of 1984. Beatrice attended and was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Whitesboro, and St. Mary's Catholic in Utica. She was a member of the Senior Day Center (Oneida Square), the Marioner Visitor of St. Francis, a member and past secretary of The Secular Franciscan Fraternity, the Altar Rosary Society of St. Mary's Church, and an Auxiliary member of the Legion of St. Mary. Mrs. Schmalz's funeral will be held Monday, February 5, 2007, at Sacred Heart Church, Utica, at 11:30 a.m., where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Her burial will take place in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown. Relatives and friends are invited. There are no calling hours. Donations in Beatrice's memory would be appreciated to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society. Arrangements are entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Home, Utica, NY. When the Lord gave us mothers He gave us love that never ends. And with His gifts of mothers He gave us our dearest friends.
