Utica Anthony Melise, 77, of Utica, passed away Monday, March 19, 2007 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center in New Hartford. Anthony was born July 1, 1929 in Elmont, Long Island, NY, the son of Joseph and Angela (Scroy) Melise. He was raised and educated in Elmont, moving to the Utica area in 1949. In 1952, he joined the US Army where he served during the Korean War. He later went on to serve with the Navy Reserves. In August of 1952, Anthony married Jeanette Mielnick, in Fort Bellfort, Virginia. Mrs. Melise passes away in 2000. Anthony was employed by General Electric in Utica. He was a member of the American Legion Post 229, North Utica and of the VFW Post 8728, Schuyler. Anthony belonged to St. Mark's Church, North Utica. Anthony is survived by a son, Anthony J. Melise, Utica; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and David Rodriguez, Frankfort; four grandchildren, Jennifer Melise, Melissa Rodriguez, Patty Anne Melise, and Anthony John Melise, Jr. He is also survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Joseph Carnabucci, Nevada, Adeline Brace, Delaware. Mr. Melise's funeral with military honors will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 9:15 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica and at 10:00 am at St. Mark's Church, North Utica where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment in St. Stanislaus & Casimer Cemetery, Whitestown will take place at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday evening, from 4 ? 7 pm. Mr. Melise's family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the first and second shift nurses, especially to Shannon, of Faxton ? St. Luke's Healthcare Center for the care and compassion given to both Anthony and his family during his stay.
