Miss Elizabeth C. Nicholson, 102 a resident of St. Joseph Nursing Home, Utica formerly of Sunset Ave passed away on Tuesday August 15, 2006 at the nursing home. Elizabeth was born in Utica on November 29, 1903 the daughter of the late Stephen and Elizabeth (Schuff) Nicholson. She was raised in Utica attended Utica Catholic Academy, Oneonta Normal School and earned her Bachelors degree and Masters degree from Syracuse University. For 47 years she was employed as a teacher in various Utica schools, including, Lincoln and J.F. Hughes and served as principal of Bleecker, Albany and Columbus Schools, retiring in 1968. Elizabeth was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Christ Child Society, Lourdes Women's Club, Catholic Women's Club and Ladies of Charity. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. Miss Nicholson is survived by three nieces, Judith V. Huxley, Johnstown, Jeanne V. Irving and her husband Peter, New Hartford and Elizabeth N. Harodecki and her husband John, Missouri; also Renay Bevins Penc, Wallkill and Jane Bevins Townsend, TX; one nephew Terrence Nicholson and his wife Dori, Clark Mills; several great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and her good friend Maureen Darling. She was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Helmer, Agnes Van Schaick and Anne Bevins, two brothers, Michael Nicholson and Stephen Nicholson, four nephews, Robert Bevins, Richard Bevins, Donald Nicholson and Stephen Nicholson and two nieces, Marian Helmer Lee and Lois Nicholson Barnum. Miss Nicholson's funeral will be held on Saturday August 19, 2006 at 11:45 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church where her mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday 4-8 p.m. Those so wishing may consider donations to St. Joseph Nursing Home in Elizabeth's memory.
