Mrs. Ruth E. (Burdick) McKelvey, 91 a resident of the Presbyterian Home, New Hartford formerly of N. Utica and Old Forge passed away on Sunday April 30, 2006 at the nursing home. Ruth was born in Beaver River, NY on September 25, 1914 the daughter of William and Ethel (Wetmore) Partridge. She was raised and educated in Beaver River and Old Forge and was a graduate of Old Forge high school. On November 14, 1934 Ruth married Alton Burdick in Old Forge, NY a union of 39 years until Alton's death in 1973. On June 30, 1979, Ruth married John McKelvey in Whitesboro, NY. John died in 1989. Ruth was employed with St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, Burdick's Store in Old Forge, Eden Park Nursing Home, Utica and in her later years enjoyed being a home maker. She was a member of the TWIGS in Old Forge and enjoyed crocheting, crafts and especially time spent with family. She was of the Methodist faith. Mrs. McKelvey is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Joan and Kenneth Schultz, Arlington, TX and Heidi Lynn and Christopher Spartano, Selkirk, NY; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lawrence Burdick, Keene, NH, Sherrill (Butch) and Linda Burdick, Blandon, PA and Daniel K. and Kathleen Burdick, Utica; four sisters, Margaret Reinert, Shirley Otty, Joyce Vohnoutka and June Partridge; three brothers, William Partridge, Robert Partridge and James Partridge; 9 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, David Schultz, sister, Dorothy Somers and daughter-in-law, June Burdick. Mrs. McKelvey's funeral will be held on Wednesday May 3, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Wednesday 5-7 P.M. prior to the service. A committal prayer will be offered on Friday May 5, at 11:30 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery, Old Forge, NY. Those so wishing may consider a donation to the American Cancer Society in Ruth's memory. Mrs. McKelvey's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Elm Wing at the Presbyterian Home for the loving care provided to Ruth.
