Obituary of William Kenefick

Mr. William (Bill) J. Kenefick W2QFE Our Dad, born June 6, 1917, passed away at the age of 88, as a result of complications from surgery for esophageal cancer. He was born on Norwich, CT, the son of William and Kathleen (Creedon) Kenefick. He married Frances Evans in 1939 and they celebrated 66 years of marriage on December 2, 2005. He graduated from Utica Free Academy. Dad served in the U.S. Navy during Word War II as a Radioman 2nd class. He worked in several places as a tool and die maker, and finally retired from Revere Copper and Brass. One of his proudest accomplishments was graduating from Utica College at the age of 65. Dad has been an Amateur Radio operator since 1936, a member of the Utica Amateur Radio Club, American Radio Relay League, and the Quarter Century Wireless Association. He used these skills to volunteer for the Boilmaker Road Race. In addition, he used his expertise with amateur radio and Morse code to decipher code for Griffiss Air Force Base. Dad has also been involved with many other volunteer activities especially for Historic St. John's Church and reading instruction at Kernan School. He and our mother were the recipients of the Mother Lavender award for their volunteering efforts. One of Dad's greatest enjoyments was his many years of camping and canoeing in the Old Forge area. Dad leaves his beloved wife, Frances and their four children, Dr. Linda and her husband, Michael Paciello, Christine (Tina) and her husband, Charles Barr, William Kenefick and his wife, Susanna and Lisa and her husband, John Terry Shaw. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These are Michael Paciello and his wife, Susan and their children, Alyssa and Christopher; Krista and her husband, Andrew Plenn and their children, Amy and Alexandra; Brenda and her husband, Greg Lino and her children, Joshua and Mindy, David Harvey and his wife, Lori and their children, David and Sara; Melissa and her husband, Robert Rose and their children, Mitchell, Benjamin and Jesse; Hope Heather, Heidi and Hannah Kenefick and Megan Shaw. Dad will be buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. There are no calling hours. On Friday, May 5, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. there will be a Memorial Mass at Historic Old St. John's Church in Dad's honor. Arrangements are under the direction of Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., Utica.
