Mrs. Helen E. Handley, 91 of N. Utica passed away on Monday June 12, 2006 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Helen was born in Rome, NY on April 12, 1915 the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Burns) Carr. She was raised and educated locally and was a graduate of Whitesboro High School class of 1933. On April 26, 1941 Helen married Robert Handley in St. Patrick's Church, Clayville, NY. Robert died in 1959. For 22 years she was employed as manager of the Faxton Hospital coffee shop. She was a charter member and active volunteer for over 20 years with The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter, was a member of the Schuyler Senior Citizens and a lifelong parishioner of St. Peter's Church, N. Utica. Helen was a great cook and received much joy and happiness entertaining her many friends and especially her beloved family. Mrs. Handley is survived by her aunt, Marjorie Edson, Skaneateles, NY; four nephews and their spouses, Terence and Mary Lou Coughlin, New Hartford, NY, Thomas and Rebecca Carr, Hickory, NC, Timothy and Jill Carr, Bowling Green, OH, and Theodore and Nancy Carr, Liverpool, NY; two nieces and their spouses, Pamela and Mark DeCotis, Melbourne, FL and Patricia and Ralph Ellis, Port Ewen, NY and a sister-in-law, Johanna Carr, Hamilton, NY. Also surviving are 11 cherished great nieces and nephews, 6 beloved great great nieces and nephews, several cousins and many close friends who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by one sister, Alice Clifford and two brothers, Thomas Carr and Richard Carr. Mrs. Handley's funeral will be held on Friday June 16, 2006 at 10:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 11:00 at St. Peter's Church where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton.
