Mary Caccia Landers, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 11, 2016 with family and the gentle caring hospice staff at the Abraham House, 1203 Kemble St, Utica, NY. Mary was born March 6, 1921 in Utica, NY, to Angelo and Blanche (Baker) Caccia. Mary Graduated from Seymour Elementary School and Utica Free Acadamy.On January 23, 1942, at the original St. Peters Church, she married her childhood sweet-heart and loving husband Maurice K. Landers. The loving couple started their family in Key West, Florida when Navy Babyson James M. was born. Mary Loved Key West. When World War II ended, the couple returned to Utica and in time Mary gave birth to William, Mathew and Thomas Landers. Mary was employed as a waitress at the Utica Elks Club. She was a loving mother and home maker. Some of her extraordinary talents included serving as New York State Democratic Comitee Woman; she was proud to be on the Kennedy mailing list; Founder of the North Utica Arts & Crafts center. She was also a very active member of St. Peters Church. Special thanks to Mary's niece; Joyce Bova and her late husband Richard Bova who passed away last week. Joyce and her late husband spent every Sunday and holidays for the past 25 years visiting Mary and Maurice at Spratt Place. Many thanks to the hospice staff at the Abraham House and St. Lukes Hospital as well as the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital and Pines Rehab Center. Mary is survived by her loving husband Maurice; son, James and wife Dolores Landers of El Cajon, CA; son William & and wife Gail Landers of Los Angeles, CA; and son Thomas Landers of Utica; grandaughters, Lily, Fiona, Laura, and Julie; grandsons, Brian, Mark, Michael and Patrick; great grandchildren Dean, Brandon, Ashley, Logan, Lucas, Cynthia, Vanessa, and Brian Jr. as well as nieces, Joyce, Marybeth, Tiki, and Suzanne; and nephew Kuhio. Mary was predeceased by her son, Mathew; her sisters, Amelia Ashcroft and Lea Sebastian; a niece Patricia Fields. This extraordinary, kind, giving, and caring woman was far and away ahead of her time, with her strong Catholic Faith. She will be greatly missed by all. Mrs. Landers' funeral will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 9:30 am at St. Peter's Church, North Utica, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Her rite of burial will be at St Agnes Cemetery, Utica. Visitation will be observed Tuesday (today) from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory would be appreciated to Catholic Charities or The Abraham House.
