Donald R. Key, 77, of Deerfield passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. Donald was born in Cooperstown, NY on November 29, 1938, a son of the late Frederick and Mable (Sullivan) Key and was a graduate of Cooperstown High School. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. In Pitkin, LA on October 26, 1964, Donald was united in marriage to Mary K. Martin. For 23 years he was employed with Gaffney Communication and served as Councilman, Town Supervisor and Tax Collector for the Town of Deerfield. He was a life member and a Commissioner of the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Deerfield Fish and Game Club. In his spare time, Donald enjoyed hunting, golfing and especially camping and boating on Piseco Lake. Donald is survived by his wife, Mary, a daughter, Tamatha Stoetzner and husband, John, of Marcy, a son, Roger Key and wife, Cindy, of Finland, OH, a granddaughter, Tiffany Fiore, of Marcy, a brother, Kenneth Key and wife, Ann, of Richmond, VA, a sister, Carol Key and Bill Young, of Cherry Valley, NY, an aunt, Liz Jones, of West Winfield, and two sisters-in-law, Bernice Key, of Cooperstown and Pat Key, of Westmoreland. Donald was predeceased by two brothers, Frederick and Raymond Key. Mr. Key's funeral service will be held on Monday evening at 6:00 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 3-6. Burial will take place in the West Schuyler Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those who wish to make donations please do so to the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department in Donald's memory.
