Mrs. Gloria Borysewicz Kwiat, 87, a resident of the Sitrin Healthcare Center in New Hartford, formerly of Deerfield, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the nursing home. Gloria was born in Utica on February 24, 1929, the daughter of Thomas and Helen (Misko) Borysewicz. She was raised and educated locally and was a 1947 graduate of Proctor High School. On November 11, 1950, Gloria married Edward Kwiat at St. Stanislaus Church in Utica, a devoted union of 22 years until Edward’s death in 1972. Gloria was actively involved with the Utica Rescue Mission Auxiliary, a member of the Class of 1947 Ladies Group as well as several local theater groups. She was of the Christian faith. Mrs. Kwiat is survived by her four children, Richard Kwiat of Upper Darby, PA, Therese and Ken Marshall of Utica, Robert and Athena Damian of AZ and Thomas and Haechong Kwiat of Gig Harbor, WA; and “adopted son” David DeBernardis of Marcy; 4 grandchildren, Christian Ambrose, Heath Marshall, Audrey Kwiat and Joanna Kwiat; 2 great grandchildren, Trent Marshall and Joel Marshall as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Clara Borysewicz and her brother, Joseph Borysewicz. Mrs. Kwiat’s funeral will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Her interment will be in St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyrs Cemetery on Wood Rd. in Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon prior to the service.
