Mrs. Barbara J. Surace, 77, a resident of the Martin Luther Nursing Home, Clinton, formerly of Utica, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford. Barbara was born in Oxford, NY on November 30, 1938, the daughter of Herbert and Gertrude (Smith) Barnes. She was raised and educated in Oxford and Westmoreland and was a graduate of Westmoreland High School. In 1961, Barbara married Philip Surace. For many years, she was employed with Best Western Gateway Adirondack Inn in N. Utica. Barbara enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching game shows. Mrs. Surace is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and John Anna of Rome; one son, Philip Surace, Jr., of Cold Brook and his companion Donna Patterson of Westmoreland; one sister, Janice Hillage of Whitesboro as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip, an infant daughter, Priscilla Surace and a brother, James Barnes. In keeping with Barbara’s wishes there are no calling hours. A private service and burial in Calvary Cemetery in Utica will be held at the convenience of her family.
