Mr. Sarkis A. Beojekian, 88, of Fort Myers, Fl and Cairo, NY, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the Charles T. Sitrin Health Care Center in New Hartford, NY. Sarkis was born in Cairo, NY on December 31, 1931, the son of Artin and Helen Beojekian and received his education at Cairo High School. Sarkis honorably served in the US Navy from 1951-1955. On June 9, 1957, Sarkis was united in marriage with Nelta E. Jansen at Zion Lutheran Church in Athens, NY. For many years, Sarkis was employed with NY Telephone Company, retiring in 1990. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed Tennis, Golf, hunting, fishing and bowling. Sarkis was a 50 years Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Catskill, NY and was of the Lutheran faith. Mr. Beojekian is survived by his beloved wife, Nelta; two daughters and one son-in-law, Cynthia Pena of Athens, NY and Nancy and Tim Mahay of Utica, NY; one son, David Beojekian of Colorado; five cherished grandchildren, Melissa and Nick Morra, Shaina Pena, Timothy and Alison Mahay, Daniel and Tammy Mahay and Michael and Alyssa Mahay; one sister, Akabe Smith, as well as six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Jack Beojekian. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Athens, NY. Burial will follow in Catskill Town Cemetery.
