Lawrence J. "Larry" Burns, 80, of New Hartford, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the HPCI Siegenthaler Center after a long illness. Larry was born November 19, 1935, in Utica, the son of Patrick F. and Mary K. (Ellis) Burns. He was raised and educated in Clinton, graduating from Clinton Central High School. In 1955, he went on to serve his country with the US Air Force for 11 years, which included during the Vietnam War. He had been stationed throughout the US, as well as in Greenland, Japan, and Africa. On November 9, 1959, Larry married Emiko Kitazume, with whom he shared a union of 57 years. He had been employed with Textile Service, Inc., retiring in the early 1990's after 25 years. Larry was a member of St. Mary's Church in Clinton. Larry is survived by his wife, Emiko Burns, New Hartford; a daughter, Eileen Burns, Florida; a son, Michael Burns, Albany; two grandsons, Noah and Connor, Ohio, who had a special place in his heart; a granddaughter, Lisa Marie Sowich, New Hartford, whom he adored; and a sister, Carol Zasa, Utica. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by a sister, Joan; and six brothers, William, Vincent, Robert, Thomas, Michael, and Patrick. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 10 am in St. Mary's Church, Clinton, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice and Palliative Care for the care and compassion shown to Larry and his family, during his stay. The family also offers a special thanks to Dr. Sikder and his staff for the care and kindness given to Larry.
