As a college-aged friend of his son (John), I was welcomed into his home and treated like family from Day One. And now, just shy of 40 years later, the family-like bond continues.
Over the years, return visits to Utica (from Texas) have always included a stop at Prescott Road. At first, it was just me. Now, my wife of nearly thirty years gladly makes those visits with me.
The earliest visits were with Mr. and Mrs. Farrell along with John and Joe. Then Margaret became a daughter-in-law …, and then along came granddaughters…, who now are finding beaus and husbands of their own.
A lot of life has passed since I was a college-aged kid that his elder son dragged home. But over all these years, I have always had a reason to visit Prescott Road long after John and Joe moved out.
His passing will leave an emptiness not only for the immediate family but for all of us who were fortunate enough to have known his soft-spoken kindness.
My wife, Susie, and I wish everyone in the family the comfort found in knowing he lived a full and meaningful life.
