Mr. Joseph A. Rimmer, Sr., 72, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at his home, with his loving family by his side. Joseph was born in Brooklyn, NY, on January 15, 1948, the son of Joseph A. and Gladys (Leddick) Rimmer, and received his education in Brooklyn schools. Joseph worked many years, as a handyman, helping many people in the Utica area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bingo and was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Rimmer is survived by his loving companion of 44 years, Catherine Podkowka; four children, Joseph Rimmer, Jr. and his wife Carol, Lillian Pearson and her husband Daniel, Lewis Rimmer and Geraldine Lucenti; two step-daughters, Johann Benson and Chantel Crep, as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers and sisters. He was predeceased by his daughter, Heather Rimmer and several brothers and sisters. Visitation for family and friends is Wednesday, December 2, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, followed by a prayer service at the conclusion of visitation. Face coverings are required, and social distancing and contract tracing protocols must be observed. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyrs Cemetery on Wood Rd. in Whitesboro.
