Mrs. Carrie B. Jenkins, 87, a resident of MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in New Hartford, formerly of Utica, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020. Carrie was born in Zellwood, FL, on May 12, 1933, the daughter of James and Bessie Mae (Rollins) Taylor and received her education in Florida schools. She came to New York and the Utica area as a young woman, and married James Jenkins. James Died in 1966. She was later married to Homer Mathis. At one time, Carrie was employed with Beaunit Fibers, later with NY Telephone, and for 35 years, as manager of Club George in Utica, a job she truly loved. Carrie concluded her career as a client relations specialist with RCIL in Utica. She enjoyed making party trays for family and friends and was a member of Hope Chapel in Utica. Mrs. Jenkins is survived by three daughters, Doris Jenkins, Debbie Jenkins Steele and her husband Alex and Lisa Jenkins, all of Utica; three sons, Marvin “Sunny” Hayes and his wife Jeanette, Calvin “Boob” Jenkins and Jerome Mathis and his wife Johann all of Utica; two brothers, Donald King of Syracuse and Robert “Bobby” King and his wife Mytsooko of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her dear friends, Maryann Bullock and Dan "Roscoe" Patterson, Jr. She was predeceased by two sons, James “Tank” Jenkins, III, and Marshall “Skip” Jenkins and one brother, Harold King, Sr. Visitation for family and friends is Friday, December 11, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held at the conclusion of visitation. Face coverings are required when entering and while in the building and social distancing and contact tracing protocols must be observed. Carrie will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica.
