Obituary of Judith E. (Metzger) Goppert

Please share a memory of Judith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Judith E. (Metzger) Goppert, 66, a resident of Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility, formerly of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. Judith was born in Utica, on March 12, 1954, the daughter of Joseph J. and Eleanor (Jennings) Metzger. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a 1973 graduate of Utica Free Academy. At one time, Judith was employed with St. Joseph Nursing Home in Utica and later with Fraternal Composites in Yorkville. Judith enjoyed drawing and loved listening to the Beatles and knew every word to every song. Family was most important in Judi’s life. She enjoyed watching her daughters play softball, and looked forward to her Friday night dinner outings with her daughter; when Judi wanted to go, she went! Judi adored her 4 grandchildren and would do anything to make them smile. She especially enjoyed playing barbie dolls with Camryn for hours. Multiple Sclerosis robbed Judi of her ability to walk and later in life, her ability to talk, but through it all, she continued to smile every single day. She was the life of the party, and a birthday party wasn’t complete until she sang. Judi has and always will remain everyone’s inspiration to live life to the fullest. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica. Mrs. Goppert is survived by her two daughters, Lauren Lopez and Jackie Goppert both of Utica; son-in-law, Luis Lopez of Utica; 4 adored grandchildren, Camryn Lopez and her boyfriend, Michael Borruso, Luis Lopez, Jr., Danaya Martinez and Breonna Martinez; 2 cherished great grandchildren, Gabriel Williams and Aanyla Williams; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Richard and Terri Metzger of Syracuse and Jack Metzger of Cambridge, NY; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack Close of Palmyra, NY, Alesia Metzger of New Hartford and Mary and Joseph Leone of NV, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was predeceased by one brother, Michael Metzger and two sisters, Sheila Close and Jeanne Reilly. Visitation for family and friends is Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, followed by a funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica. Her Rite of Committal and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Those wishing to make a donation in Judith’s memory, please consider the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Lauren would like to personally thank all of her friends who supported her and Judi during this difficult time. A special thank you to the staff of Oneida Extended Care Facility, Vent Unit and Judi’s CNA and dear friend, Sharon Hadasz for the many years of compassionate care you provided to Judi.
