Mr. Charles “Noot” Edward Hammett, Jr., 68, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the Abraham House in Rome. Charles was born in Sumter, SC, on August 16, 1952, the son of Charles Edward, Sr., and Lena (Bennett) Hammett. He came to Utica as a young boy and was a graduate of Proctor High School. At one time, Charles was married to Ann Mae Hammett. Early in his career, he was employed with St. Elizabeth Hospital and more recently with Special Metals Corporation in New Hartford. Charles enjoyed baseball, drawing, playing guitar and was a car enthusiast. Mr. Hammett is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Hammett of SC; son, Jonathan Hammett of Utica; three sisters, Lena Mae Hammett of SC, Carolyn Lang-Hammett and Arthur of Utica, and Carline Herron and her husband Lee of Utica; three brothers, Peter James Hammett and his wife Margie of TX, Clinton Johnny Hammett and his wife Leberta of Utica and Richard Hammett and Diane Chrystie of Rome as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Lena. Visitation for family and friends is Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, followed by a prayer and time to share memories of Charles at the conclusion of visitation. He will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica. Mr. Hammett’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staffs at the Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Utica and The Abraham House in Rome for the wonderful care you provided to Charles.
