Geraldine “Gerrie” Gail Gaspa, entered into eternal rest on December 22, 2020, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Her loving family was by her side at the time of her passing. Geraldine was born, January 6, 1952, the daughter of Matthew Roger and Kay Gaspa. Gerrie spent most of her life in Boston, MA, where she worked with the homeless population, as well as the helpless and mentally ill. She believed everyone should be treated with dignity and given a chance to prosper in this world. Gerrie is survived by her devoted and loving sister, Katherine Clark of New Hartford; It was often said that two sisters could not be more different, but the unbreakable bond and love they shared was remarkable. She also leaves her niece, Valerie Sitler Bolitho and her husband Steve Bolitho of Miami Beach, FL; her great nephew, Benjamin Sitler of Miami Beach, whom she shared a deeply close and loving relationship. Gerrie was at her best with children. Her ability to connect with them and live a life of “playtime” was her gift to the world. Also surviving is her cherished lifelong friend, Marion Swan of Anniston, Alabama. Gerrie and Marion became best friends at the age of 10, and never left each other’s side, no matter where across the country either one lived. She also leaves her dear friends, Bernadette Tahan-Quenneville, of Utica, Dianndra Pristera of Utica, Samantha Acosta, her special caretaker of Utica and her special Boston friends, Debi Firlit, Amalia Perez del Pulgar and her husband Peter, Kathleen Garrison and Sarah and Paul Benoit, who helped provide Gerrie with a life full of fun and adventures. She was predeceased by her parents, Matthew and Kay. Gerrie’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to staffs of Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., and the Abraham House in Rome, for the excellent care and compassion you provided, especially during these difficult times of COVID. In keeping with Gerrie’s wishes, there will be no services. Those wishing to make a donation in Gerrie’s memory, please consider the Stevens-Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St., Utica, NY 13502 or the Abraham House, 417 N. Washington St., Rome, NY 13440.
