Please share a memory of Margaret (Peggy) to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Margaret (Peggy) Cox Waterman, 84, of Whitesboro, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford. Affectionately known as ‘Peggy’ by most, Margaret, was born in Utica, on December 10, 1936, the daughter of Robert and Mary (Uerz) Cox. She attended Sacred Heart grade school and graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School, class of 1954. On May 17, 1958 Peggy married Neil Waterman at Sacred Heart Church in Utica and, together, they built a loving home and raised a family in Whitesboro. A devout parishioner of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Whitesboro, she was also a member of Our Lady’s Rosary Makers, a lifelong member of the Pokinos and a member of the Eucharistic Adoration at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church in Utica. Peggy saw the good in everyone. If any single trait could define her, it was her singular ability to find a silver lining in any situation and allow her faith to guide her through any adversity. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida with Neil, knitting countless mittens for needy families, and not taking credit for all the goodness she put into the world. Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and her greatest joys centered on her family. Mrs. Waterman is survived by her loving husband, Neil; her five beloved children, Gerard (Kathy) Waterman, Marie (Jeff) Isenberg, Dr. Michael Waterman, Patrick Waterman, and Matthew (Ellen) Waterman; six cherished grandchildren, Bryan (Kayla) Waterman, Kyle Waterman, Jeffrey (Alyssa) Isenberg, Daniel Isenberg, Victoria Waterman, and Elizabeth Waterman; two sisters, Pat Cox and Bette Hennessy; one brother, Tom Cox; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Waterman, Mary Milioto, and Phyllis Waterman; one brother-in-law, Robert Cummings; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews whom all hold a very special place for Aunt Peg. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Mary, one sister, Marilyn Engler and two brothers, Robert Cox, Jr., John Cox, and an infant brother, Francis Cox along with several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Mrs. Waterman’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Whitesboro, where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. A private burial will be held in Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Mother Marianne’s West Side Kitchen, 702 Columbia St., Utica, NY 13502 in Peggy’s memory.
