Please share a memory of Jon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Monday January 4, 2021, Jon Tallman, loving husband, father and papa, passed away at the age of 72. Jon was born on December 17, 1948, to John “Jack” and Virginia (Schmalz) Tallman. He was a graduate of UFA and served in the United States Navy. He worked for Chicago Pneumatic and retired from the Utica DPW. On August 17,1974 he married Josephine “Joan” Tallman and resided in Utica, NY where they raised their son Michael. Jon was a family man and loved spending time with his two grandchildren, Andrew and Carter. You could find him at any one of their school functions and athletic games cheering them on. He was always the first one to tell you how proud he was of you and you knew in your heart he truly meant it. Jon was known to many for his quick wit, great conversations, kind and compassionate spirit. His passion for the NY Yankees was apparent the moment you met Jon, he and his wife Joan would spend time watching games on tv and in person together. He was always up for a great meal, family dinners and get togethers will never be the same. Jon was a member of the Holy Name Society where he was once president, and the New Hartford American Legion Post 1376. Spending time with friends was important as well. Some of his favorite moments were when he enjoyed collecting baseball cards and going to card shows with Rob Gianatti, grabbing a cup of coffee with John “Cappy” Capraro Jr. and the boys, chatting with his favorite baker Ramon Zayas, and meeting up for an ice cream sundae social with Claudio Garay. Jon was preceded in death by his father, Jack; his mother, Virginia; his brother-in-law, William “Bill” Swider; and his favorite grand dog Izzie “Izzboe”. His legacy and memories are left with his wife, Joan, his son and daughter in law, Michael and Melissa, and his two grandchildren, Andrew and Carter. He also is survived by his sister, Paula Swider of Utica, NY; his nieces Erin Peabody and husband Joel of Austin, TX; Shannon Hansford and husband Rob and their son Linus of Rochester, NY. Jon leaves behind many close friends here as well as many extended family members in Ireland. The Tallman family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and healthcare staff At MVHS for their continuous care over the last month. Due to COVID restrictions, Jon’s funeral services will be only for his immediate family.
