Obituary of Winston G. Kelly

Mr. Winston G. Kelly, 87, of New Hartford, passed away due to complications associated with the COVID virus, on Monday, January 18, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in the presence of his loving daughters. Winston was born in Caton, NY, on July 4, 1933, the son of Gerald and Eola (Ferry) Kelly and received his education at Painted Post High School. Winston proudly served in the US Army, and continued his dedicated service to his country in the Army National Guard, for 20 years. On November 30, 1957, Winston was united in marriage with Joan Kennerknecht at St. Joseph’s Church in Utica. Joan passed away in 2018. For many years until his retirement, Winston was owner and operator of Utica Floor Maintenance, a company he grew to many branches throughout NY State. Winston was past president of the Kiwanis Club, the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed traveling, watching movies and had a true passion for cooking. One of Winston’s proudest moments, was marching in the John F. Kennedy Inauguration parade. Winston will be remembered for his easy-going nature and ability to befriend everyone he met. To know Winston was to truly love him. Among his many accomplishment in life, his three daughters and their families were what he cherished most. Mr. Kelly is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Todd Kogut of Clinton, Norma Jean and Tom Rice of New Hartford and Colleen and George Clemons of Utica; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Pauline Dixon of FL and Marlene and Charles McDaniel of NC; two brothers, Mark Scofield of TN and Gene Kelly of FL, as well as 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by his son, Steven Kelly, grandson, Nathaniel Kelly and brother, Rodger Scofield. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a funeral and burial will be held at a later date, when safer health condition permit. He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville.
