Barbara Gail (Carlson) Internicola, 66, of Utica New York departed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her children on January 27, 2021. Gail grew up in Ashville and Panama, New York and was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Panama Central School in 1972. Gail earned her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Syracuse University at Utica College in Utica, New York, where she graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors. With distinct skill and compassion, Gail committed her professional life as a Social Worker in Utica, New York. Her career began with Catholic Charities of Utica, where she served as the Senior Case Manager and Program Manager. From there, she dedicated herself to the Integrated Community Alternatives Network (ICAN) where she served as the Senior Service Coordinator. Gail continued her life’s work as the Program Director for Preventative Services for the Neighborhood Center of Utica. Upon retiring, Gail continued to enjoy serving local children, as a cafeteria worker for the Whitesboro Central School District. Gail had a fondness of nature, enjoyed bird watching, camping in the Adirondacks and knitting. Most notably, Gail adored spending time with her children and grandkids. Gail is survived by her husband of 25 years, Paul Internicola and her loving family of four children and six grandchildren; Jason Price and granddaughter Presley Price, Corinne Schmidt (Lenny Schmidt) and granddaughter’s Cora and Everly Schmidt, Matthew Price (Candace Price), and Kristen Baker (Scott Baker) and grandson’s Logan and Levi Baker, and granddaughter, Leah Baker. Additionally, Gail is survived by her devoted brothers Jeff Carlson (Mary Carlson) and Joe Carlson (Toni Carlson) and preceded by her parents Don A. and Barbara F. Carlson. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gail’s memory, to be made to the National Audubon Society (act.Audubon.org) and/or Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. (hospicecareinc.org) A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, N. Utica. A private celebration of her life is scheduled for the Spring.
