Please share a memory of Preston to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mr. Preston Robert Fuerst, 90, of N. Utica, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. Preston was born in Salem, NY, on September 11, 1930, the son of Charles and Mabel (Hill) Fuerst. He was raised and educated in Schenectady and received his education there. Preston honorably served in the US Army Infantry Division during the Korean War. On September 10, 1955, Preston was united in marriage with Patricia Ellen Seery and they shared 55 years together loving each other all their days, until Patricia’s death in 2010. At one time, Preston was employed with General Electric Company in Schenectady and later as a traveling salesman with Hallmark and Treasure Masters. As a dad and grandfather, he shared special times and routines with both his children and grandchildren, and he loved when everyone got together and celebrated any occasion. Pret was a simple man and never wanted very much. He was a golf enthusiast and took great joy in "taking your money" while wagering bets along the course. He was also an avid Syracuse sports fan and a parishioner of Historic Old St. John’s Church in Utica. Mr. Fuerst is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and James Mack of Deerfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and M.J. (Herbert) Fuerst of Oviedo, FL and Matthew and Connie (Adams) Fuerst of Daytona Beach, FL; son-in-law, Paul Hojohn of Vernon; eight cherished grandchildren, Korrie and Michael Mack, Ryan and Halle Fuerst, Meghan and Madison Fuerst, Alexandria and Brianna Hojohn; great granddaughter Arcadia Fuerst; brother-in-law Thomas and Eileen Seery of Saratoga Springs; sister-in-law Katherine and Joe Briggs of Arizona as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Jo Hojohn and his brother, Charles Fuerst. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Ardo family for their friendship and for always looking out for Pret. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a memorial service to celebrate Preston’s life will be held at a later date, when safer health circumstances permit. He will be laid to rest, with military honors at Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Those wishing to make a donation in Preston’s memory, please consider the American Cancer Society.
