Obituary of Lucille Rita Jardieu

Mrs. Lucille Rita Jardieu, 88, a resident of the Masonic Care Community in Utica, formerly of Deerfield, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the nursing home with her loving family by her side. Lucille was born in Utica, on May 9, 1932, the daughter of Dominick Papelino, (who passed away just prior to Lucille’s birth), and Eugene and Elaine (Donato) DePellio. She was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Proctor High School. On June 30, 1956, Lucille was united in marriage with Anthony “Tony” J. Jardieu, Jr., a loving union of 57 years, until Tony’s death in 2013. For many years, Lucille was employed in retail with various local companies, including: W.T. Grant and Montgomery Wards. She enjoyed reading, traveling, especially to visit her son’s family in Texas, and loved cats. Lucille’s greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren who were the light of her life. Mrs. Jardieu is survived by her four children, Anthony Jardieu and his wife Cyndee of Waco, TX, Laurie Engell and her husband John of Trenton Falls, NY, Elaine McSweeney and her husband Michael of Utica and Stephen Jardieu of Utica; eight cherished grandchildren, Jason Edwards, Brooke Edwards, Stephen Jardieu, Jr. and his wife Danielle, Christopher Jardieu and his wife Katie, Lauren Bocanegra and her husband Josh, Cory Jardieu, Becky Engell and John Engell, Jr and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Carol Jardieu of Whitesboro who shared a special relationship with Lucille. Also surviving are eight adored great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Debbie DePellio and brother, Salvatore DePellio. Visitation for family and friends is Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, followed by a service at the conclusion of visitation. She will be laid to rest, with her Husband in Calvary Cemetery in Utica.
