Darlene “Cougar” C. Klotz (Wheeler), 68, passed away Sunday May 30, 2021 in the presents of her daughter and granddaughter at the Presbyterian Home where she has been a resident for several years.
Darlene was born September 27, 1952 a Mohawk Indian, in Utica, the daughter of the late William P. and Christen P. (Edwards) Wheeler. Darlene was educated in the Utica Schools. She then continued her education vocationally getting her cosmetology degree becoming a hair dresser. For the majority of her hair dressing career, she was at the Hunter House in Utica. When she wasn’t doing hair, she was a singer and song writer. She preformed with the Hattie Jim band where they sang the most poplar rock and roll songs at the time.
She leaves behind her husband William E. Klotz, New Hartford, daughter Alita Dorrington of Frankfort, a son Donald Hamoy of Malone, NY., 2 sisters Maureen Wheeler and Michele Cole and husband John, both of Akwesasne Reservation, 5 grandchildren Tammy, Darlene, Virjinia, Portia Dorrington and Emily Yozzo, 4 great grandchildren Aubrey and Beau Haden, Amira and Amara Ibrahim and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother William E Dorrington and 10 brothers and sisters.
In keeping with Darlene’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or formal services. The family will gather on June 12, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Akwesasne Reservation for a burial.
