Mr. William J. Derby, 76, of Utica, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. William was born in Utica, on July 4, 1944, the son of Eleanor (Anson) Derby. He received his education in Frankfort-Schuyler Schools and furthered his education at Great Lakes Electrical School. William proudly served in the US Navy from 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1968. At one time, William was employed with Loblaws Grocery Store in North Utica and The Neighborhood Center in Utica. He was of the Catholic Faith. Mr. Derby is survived by three children, Melissa and Gil Olcott of Rome, Michele Derby and her fiancée, John Kramer of Chittenango and William Derby Jr. and Justine Minsoh of Ilion; their mother, Annie Anderson; seven cherished grandchildren, Dustin Derby, Owyn Derby, Caitlin Mitchell, Kimberlee Mitchell, Lacie Mitchell, Michael Derby and Kerry Wyley; one sister and brother-in-law, Joanna and Sal Carriero of Rome, his niece, Maria; good friend, Jack Sosa of Utica, as well as his many friends at Willow Park in North Utica. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Cassandra Derby. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at West Schuyler Cemetery, Newport Rd., Schuyler. Mr. Derby’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Willow Park for the wonderful care and compassion you provided to William during his time there.
