Dennis J. Murphy (Murf), 68, of Utica, NY, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Utica, NY after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Dennis fought his battle with a strong inner strength, dignity, and the love and support of his two sons. Dennis was born in Utica NY on April 14, 1953, the son of Richard L and Elsie (Sumner) Murphy. He was raised in Utica and was a 1971 graduate of Utica Free Academy. On August 26, 1972, Dennis and Dawn Buckingham were united in marriage, a union that blessed Dennis with his two sons, Dennis and Dan Murphy. Dennis found great pleasure sharing his enjoyment of camping, fishing, and watching NY Yankee games with his sons. He also enjoyed the many lifelong friendships he had with the guys he grew up with in West Utica. Dennis is survived by his two beloved sons, Dennis J. Murphy, II ,Daniel Murphy, and their mom, Dawn Murphy, all of Clark Mills, NY; his sister, Barbara Calvaruso of Hanover PA; his niece, Jennifer Hopper and her husband Chris, also of Hanover, PA; a special aunt, Lois Leaf, and her family of Yorkville NY: his extended Buckingham family, and his many friends. Dennis was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Richard L. Murphy. In keeping with Dennis’ wishes, there will be no calling hours. Dennis will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro, NY after a private family service. The family would like to thank the staff at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the special care they provided to Dennis…..especially his angel, Debbie Barnes, and his wonderful nurse Lisa.
