Mr. Robert F. Mahardy, Sr., 91, of N. Utica, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021 at the St. Luke’s Home, in New Hartford. Robert was born in Utica, on November 9, 1930, the son of Edward and Helen (Rielly) Mahardy. Robert proudly served in the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. On July 21, 1970, Robert was united in marriage with Shirley C. Chazik, a loving and devoted union of 51 years. For many years, Robert was employed as a Radar Technician with Griffiss Air Force base in Rome, retiring in 1978. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Utica Post 229, N. Utica and a devoted parishioner of St. Peter’s Church in N. Utica. In his younger years, Robert enjoyed hunting. Mr. Mahardy is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Amy Mahardy of New Hartford; step-daughter, Debra Swider and her husband, Chris of Whitesboro; cherished grandchildren, Hannah Mahardy, Hailey Mahardy, Liam Mahardy, Michael Swider, Matthew Swider and his wife Brette, Marissa Swider and Christopher Swider and his wife Shelly; three adored great grandchildren, Stella, Stanley and Henry; one brother, Roy Mahardy, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marilyn Pardi and Arlene Dunn and six brothers, Edward, Jack, William, James, Thomas and Lawrence Mahardy. In keeping with Robert’s wishes there are no calling hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to his Mass of Christian burial on Monday (today), November 15, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, N. Utica, where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. His Rite of Committal and entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Yorkville, at the convenience of the family.
