Mr. Victor Joseph Fenus, 85, of Rome, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021 at Rome Hospital. Victor was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming, on July 31, 1936, the son of Joseph and Frances (Bider) Fenus. Victor attended and graduated from Copperstown High School where he was a 5-sport athlete. Victor proudly served in the US Air force from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1964. At one time, Victor was employed as an aircraft mechanic with Mohawk Airlines and for 36 years until his retirement, with US Air. On April 12, 1985, Victor was united in marriage with Donna M. Murray, a loving and devoted union of 36 years. Victor was a sports enthusiast and founder of the Westmoreland Pop Warner football program. As an outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, and hunting, especially elk and moose. He had a green thumb for gardening and was especially proud of his strawberries and blueberries. Victor was a true family-oriented man, who enjoyed going to Fly Creek Cider Mill and the Cooperstown Museum with his loved ones. Mr. Fenus is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; one sister-in-law, Deborah Lee Elmer of Rome; two nephews, Scott Elmer and Daniel Elmer; a great niece, Kayla Marie Elmer and a very special great great niece, Alyza Lee Sutton, who brought much joy and happiness to Victor. Also surviving are several additional nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Frances, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Manfred and Catherine Murray and three sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Murphy, Patty Gonzalez and Nancy Beasock. Visitation for family and friends is Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. at the conclusion of visitation. He will be laid to rest in Rome Cemetery on Jarvis Rd., on Thursday, December 30th at 11:30 a.m.
