Mrs. Marlene K. Alexander, 86, life long resident of Utica, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center with her family by her side. Marlene was born in Utica on August 20, 1935, the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Adlys) Kaminski. She grew up on the family farm on Graham Road and received her education in Utica schools, Class of 1953. Mrs. Alexander was united in marriage to William J. Alexander at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Utica, on February 11, 1956. Mr. Alexander predeceased her on February 1, 1995. She was employed by New York Telephone for 42 years as a telephone operator/ supervisor. During this time she gladly accepted the position as a union representative, passionately fighting for her co-worker’s rights in the work place. She also worked for Kmart in the office for a change of pace. Marlene was a long term member of Sacred Heart Church in West Utica where she volunteered in various activities including the annual church bazaar. At the age of 42, she decided it was time to get her driver’s license, which gave her new found freedom in her gold 1974 Pontiac Firebird. Throughout her life, she had many things that she treasured and always looked forward to. She loved family trips to Tupper Lake for opening day of walleye pike, where she would frequently say "that's where the big ones are". She also loved her time spent on Oneida Lake, and most recently, Chaumont Bay. She spent many hours reading, playing Mahjong, and looked forward to her weekly visits to her son's house to watch Murdoch Mysteries. She found enjoyment in the kitchen making her specialized recipes for everyone, like pistachio cake, pierogis, and other polish dishes. Marlene, better known to her family as "GG", lived a simple life, but a great life, and was loved by many. Mrs. Alexander is survived by her two daughters Mary Alexander, Alder Creek; Grace Pruitt, Chaumont; two sons William Alexander (Liz Sharkey) Sylvan Beach; Bruce Alexander (Michelle), Running Springs, CA; Five grandchildren Andrew Pruitt (Kika), Austin Pruitt (Hillary), both of North Utica; Hunter Murphy, Chaumont; Shannon Johnson (Cory Peters) Alder Creek; Will Alexander, Running Spring, CA; Great Grandchildren Ava, Ella, Logan, Olivea, Rylee, several nieces, nephews and a special feline companion Kitty Kat. She was predeceased by an infant son Michael Paul Alexander, brothers Joe, Albert, Alex, Ed, sisters Frances, Genevieve and Cecelia.
