Obituary of Brian E. Kain

Mr. Brian E. Kain, 69, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the Siegenthaler Hospice Center in New Hartford, with his loving family by his side.
Brian was born in Utica, on April 28, 1952, the son of Edward and Dorothy (Cook) Kain. He was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. On September 27, 1975, Brian was united in marriage with Kathy A. Pierson at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Utica. For many years, Brian was a horse owner and trainer at Vernon Downs Racetrack. He and Kathy were also the owners and operators of Kain’s Diner in Utica and for 32 years, lovingly ran a day care program from their home in Utica. Brian was an avid golfer and enjoyed cooking, oil painting and landscaping his property. He was also a great storyteller and truly loved taking care of his horses.
Mr. Kain is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; one daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Taylor Segur of Utica; three sons and daughters-in-law, Shawn and Diane Kain of Marcy, Barry and Kimberly Kain of Barneveld and Brendan and Lindsey Kain of Marcy; four cherished grandsons, Ethan, Justin, Jackson and Gavin; one sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Kurt Hameline of Utica; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Terrence and Judy Kain of Utica and Paul and Linda Kain of New Hartford, as well as several nieces, nephews, and the hundreds of children he and Kathy cared for, helped raise and loved as their own. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Dorothy and infant son, Patrick Kain.
Visitation for family and friends is Sunday, February 27, 2022 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, followed by a private family service at 3:00 p.m. at the conclusion of visitation. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413 in Brian’s memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mr. Kain’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. and the Siegenthaler Hospice Center for the wonderful care and compassion you provided to Brian. A special thank you to the ALS Society of Utica for the support and guidance you provided to Brian and his family.
