Obituary of Shaheen C. Moshaty

    Mr. Shaheen “Mo” C. Moshaty, 97, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford.

     Shaheen was born in Utica, on September 2, 1924, the son of Harry and Elizabeth (Collins) Moshaty.  He was raised in Utica, was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School and later earned his bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University. Mo proudly served in the US Army during WW II.  On January 5, 1951, Mo was united in marriage with Beverly J. Weigand, a loving and devoted union of 47 years until Beverly’s death in 1999.  For many years, he was employed as an Art Therapist with Marcy State Hospital, retiring in 1973.  Mo enjoyed painting, computer games and loved listening to music.  He was a member of VFW post 8728 in Schuyler and a parishioner of St. Mark’s Church in N. Utica. 

     Mr. Moshaty is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and Scott Horgen of Niskayuna, NY, Sharon and Clark Wollaber of Remsen, NY and Cynthia and Anthony Franco of Fairfield, ,NY; one son and daughter-in-law, Sheen and Rebecca Moshaty of Auburn, NY; 11 cherished grandchildren, Ben Horgen, Nikki Horgen, Jennifer Syrotynski, Jeremy Wollaber, Todd and Ashley Wollaber, David Haman, Elissa Haman, Justin and Monique Moshaty, Joshua Moshaty, Brianne and Nick Neabel and Stephen Synakowski as well as 12 adored great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his daughter, Melissa Synakowski. 

     Mr. Moshaty’s funeral will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica.  He will be laid to rest in Middleville Rural Cemetery in Middleville, NY.  Visitation for family and friend is Thursday May 12^th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
