Obituary of Leonard J. Abbott

      Mr. Leonard J. Abbott, 69, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at his home.

     Leonard was born in Rome, NY, on October 31, 1952, the son of Joseph J., Jr. and Carmella E. (Zasa) Abbott and received his education at Whitesboro High School.  Leonard proudly served in the US Army for six years.  He enjoyed fishing, bowling, swimming, golf and was a skilled drummer.  Leonard was a sports enthusiast with his favorite team being the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Leonard was a gentleman with a huge heart and kind soul.  As a resident, while at the Rescue Mission, Len Helped with daily devotions. His family was most important to Leonard and he would do anything for them.  He was of the Catholic faith.

     Mr. Leonard is survived by his loving mother, Carmella Abbott of Clinton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Victoria J and Paul Meuser of Loda, IL and Jeanne Marie and Scott Stone of Merrimack, NH; one brother, Joseph A. Abbott of Oneida as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  Leonard especially had a close bond with his nephew, Ernest Talerico, who was instrumental with helping Leonard during his time at the Rescue Mission. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Abbott, Jr.
