Obituary of Patricia Mary Cox

Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On August 27, 2022, Patricia Mary Cox, an incredible gift to and the matriarch of her family, departed to join her loved ones who went before her.

Born on March 26, 1928 in Utica, NY, Patricia was the daughter of Mary Uerz and Robert Cox.

Pat was the eldest of eight children and lived in Utica and Whitesboro her entire life.  She was a 1946 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School.  She worked at Metropolitan Insurance and then had a long career at Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation retiring in 1988.  Pat was a life-long parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and a current parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church.  She was a Eucharistic Adoration Adorer at St. Joseph & St. Patrick’s Church.  After retirement, Pat was an active volunteer, including a reading assistant volunteer at Sacred Heart School, office volunteer at Sacred Heart Rectory, library volunteer at Harts Hill School, gift shop volunteer at Faxton Hospital and food kitchen volunteer at Mother Marianne Westside Kitchen. Pat enjoyed traveling, with many visits to California, Florida and New York City and she was a voracious reader.  Pat, affectionately known as Bud or Bidda, was the greatest fan of all nineteen of her nieces and nephews, and thirty-six of her great nieces and nephews, never missing a birthday party, first communion, graduation, wedding or sports, theater or music event.  Perpetually young at heart, Pat was a friend as well as an aunt to them.

Patricia leaves behind her beloved brother, Thomas Cox of Redondo Beach, CA and her brother-in-law, Neil Waterman of Whitesboro.  Leaving a huge void in their lives, Bud leaves behind her grateful nieces and nephews and their families, Anne Schwenzfeier, Kathy Ziarko, Mary Cox, Susan Casper, Bob Cox, John Cox, Jim Cox, Judy Way, Julie Gorczynksi, Gerard Waterman, Marie Isenberg, Michael Waterman, Patrick Waterman, Matthew Waterman, Janice Zammiello, Jim Engler, Marybeth Bathrick and John Hennessy and her godchildren Barb Spudie and Sue Marcoccia. She also leaves behind many great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends.  As every friend and new member to the family will tell you, Bud made them feel like a welcome part of the family.

Patricia was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Francis, Jack and Bob Cox, her sisters, Maryilyn Engler, Peg Waterman and Bette Hennessy and her in-laws, John Hennessy, Gus Engler, Joan Cox Reimenschneider and Dewey Cox, and her niece, Lynda Hood and great niece, Amanda Casper and great nephew, Brian Schwenzfeier.

Pat wanted to send a big thank you to her special nieces and nephews, and their families, who have done so much for her over the years, including Susan Casper, Mike Waterman, Judy Way, Kathy Ziarko and Gerard Waterman. The family would also like to thank the caregivers who helped her over the last couple of months.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Patricia’s funeral Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 12:00 noon at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Our Lady of The Rosary Campus, Burrstone Rd., New Harford.  She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville.
