Margaret “Peg” A. Durr, 86, of Utica passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Utica, on October 29, 1935, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Oeinck) Mullin. She was educated in Utica Schools and after graduating she attended the Utica School Commerce. In March of 1959 she was united in marriage to the late Thomas A. Durr.

She is survived by her four daughters Mary Carol Durr (Steven Specht), New Hartford, Judith Schram, Beaver Dams, NY., Donna Durr, Utica, Sharon Durr-Anayiotos (Christophous Anayiotos), Clayton, NC., two sons Thomas Durr (Rowena Beduya), Hayward, CA., Brian Durr, San Francisco, CA., a brother Paul Mullin, Salem, NH., nine loving grandchildren, Noah Moskowitz, Michael Schram, Sophia Panayotou, Vivian Panayotou, Georgios Anayiotos, Margarita  Anayiotou, Maria Anayiotou, Nikolaus “Niko’ Durr, Zachary Durr as well many nieces and nephews.

Peg enjoyed traveling and spent many happy days in Myrtle Beach, California and New York City as well having special experiences on her trips to Cyprus where daughter Sharon was married and in Italy where she perfected one Italian phrase and learned she loved Limoncello.

Peg was an excellent cook and prepared many fabulous holiday and special occasion meals for friends and family. She was nudged into gourmet cooking while watching The Galloping Gourmet in the late 60s and evolved into a true connoisseur of fine food and drink. She loved a perfectly prepared meal at a favorite restaurant and got a kick out of chatting with Bobby Flay on the streets of NYC and at his restaurant.

She was one of those cool moms that bought 45s of songs like “Let It Be” but also enjoyed being serenaded at one of her birthday dinners to “Luck Be a Lady” or listening to a beautiful rendition of a classical violin masterpiece by her grandson Niko.

Like her mother, Mary Mullin, she was an accomplished sewer and knitter. She knit beautiful sweaters in Fair Isle, Irish Fisherman and Scandinavian styles. You could count yourself among the lucky when you received one.

Towards the end of her life, she felt lucky to have found a special person, William “Bill” Battaglia, to spend time with.

She was a member of the Christ Child Society and supported organizations devoted to the Arts, like Sculpture  Space in Utica.
