Obituary of Leona Frances Hameline
Mrs. Leona Frances Hameline, 102, a resident of the Charles T. Sitrin Healthcare Center in New Hartford, formerly of Utica, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at the nursing home with her loving family by her side.
Leona was born in Utica, on June 15, 1920, the daughter of Albert and Catherine (Loughlin) Bankert. She was raised and educated in Utica, was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School and the Excelsior School of Business. After graduation, Leona worked for the FDIC in Utica for ten years, and later in her career, retired from the Insurance Department of The Savings Bank of Utica. On November 15, 1947, Leona was united in marriage with Harold A. Hameline, a loving and devoted union of 35 years until Harold’s death in 1983. Leona enjoyed shopping, ceramics, dinning out and playing bridge with family and friends. She was a devout parishioner of Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Campus in Utica and was a past president of its Women’s Club. She was also a volunteer at Grace Church soup kitchen for many years.
Mrs. Hameline is survived by her sons and daughters, Kurt D. and Karen Hameline of Utica, Pamela and Mark Pfisterer of Clinton, Mark Hameline of Sylvan Beach and Lisa Hameline of Utica; seven cherished grandchildren, Corey Hameline of Utica, Christopher and Taryn Hameline of Utica, Jonathan and Janette Pfisterer of MA, Kristen and Ashwin Raju of GA, Katie and Peatros Haile of Albany, Mike and Mikaela Hameline of Troy and Cassia Hameline of Montana; 4 adored great grandchildren, Liam, Keira, Ava and Tesfay, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Harold, Leona was predeceased by her brother, Harold Bankert.
Mrs. Hameline’s funeral will be held on Monday, October 31, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Campus, 2222 Genesee St., Utica, where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. She will be laid to rest with her beloved Harold in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Visitation for family and friends is Monday, October 31st from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in Church prior to the funeral Mass. Those wishing to make a donation in Leona’s memory, please consider, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at church.
