Obituary of Lawrence T. Getz

     Mr. Lawrence T. Getz, 80, of Chadwicks, NY, formerly of N. Utica, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Utica.

     Lawrence was born in Utica, on September 27, 1942, the son of Theodore and Rose (Sergot) Getz. He was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy.  Lawrence proudly served in the US Army and where he was stationed in Africa.  On August 10, 1963, Lawrence was united in marriage with Geraldine Louise Marie Holdridge, at St. Peter’s Church in N. Utica, a loving and devoted union of 58 years, until Geraldine’s passing on December 24, 2021.  At one time, Lawrence was employed with UNIVAC corporation, later with ICL in N. Utica and most recently with Orion Bus Industries, retiring in 1997. Lawrence enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and camping and was an amateur gun maker.  He was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Church in N. Utica. 

     Mr. Getz is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Getz, of Chadwicks, who loving cared for her father in her home over the past several months. his son, Christopher Getz and Debra Bonanza of N. Utica; two cherished grandchildren, Ryan Buckley and her husband Jimmy of MN and Kallie Getz of Parishville, NY; an adored great granddaughter, Madelyn Buckley; one sister and brother-in-law, Bernadette and Brian Sperry of MD; one brother, Amil Getz of Yorkville; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cynthia and Charles Aldi of Deerfield and Barbara and Wayne Swisloski of N. Utica, as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his son, Lawrence G. Getz, sister, Elizabeth Getz and sister-in-law, Marilyn Getz.

     Visitation for family and friends is Friday, December 30, 2022, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 at the conclusion of the visitation. He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife in Forest Hill Cemetery in the spring.  In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you perform and act of kindness for someone, as Lawrence often did.
