Barbara M. Barr, 80, of Deerfield, passed away at home on November 27, 2018, peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born in Utica on July 13, 1938, a daughter of Eunice Deuel. On October 18, 1958, at St. Paul’s Episopcal Church, Utica, Barbara was united in marriage to J. Michael Barr, a blessed union of 46 years until his passing in 2004. At one time, Barbara was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base and later at Marcy State Hospital retiring in 1994. She was a member of Maynard United Methodist Church in Marcy, Deerfield Seniors, Marcy Seniors, Maynard Ladies in Mission, and the Red Hat Sisters. In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed reading, playing pinochle with the neighborhood pinochle group and was a wiz at crossword puzzles. Barbara is survived by four sons, John, of Yorkville, Michael and wife, Cathy, of Deerfield, Terry and wife, Denise, of Whitesboro and Darryl and wife, Linda, of Barneveld; four grandchildren, Katie Barr and fiancee, Matt Sylvester, of Whitesboro, Michael Barr, of Deerfield, Mykaela Barr, of Whitesboro, and Alexa Barr, of Whitesboro; two great grandchildren, Layla and Livia Sylvester; a sister, Sharon Harris and husband, John, of North Creek, NY; three brothers, David Smith and wife, Karen, of Rome, Larry Smith and wife, Linda, of Whitesboro, and John Smith, of New Hartford; many cousins, nieces and nephews and two special friends, Erin Santa Maria, of Marcy, and Sue Clark, of Deerfield. She was predeceased a son, Douglas, in 1964, an infant sister, Faye Smith and her stepfather, Richard Smith in 1973. Calling hours for Mrs. Barr will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2018, from 2-5 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Mrs. Barr’s funeral will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 11:30 at the Maynard United Methodist Church in Marcy. Those so wishing may make donations to Smile Train, Steven Swan Humane Society, Hospice and Palliative Care, Maynard United Methodist Church or donate blood thru the Red Cross in Barbara’s memory. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thank you to all of Barbara’s neighbors, who went above and beyond in this difficult time.
