Obituary of Eleanore Marie Moskal
Mrs. Eleanore Marie Moskal, 86, of Yorkville, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2023, after a brief illness, surrounded by her family, in her home.
Eleanore was born on February 22, 1936, in Utica NY, to Michael and Victoria Kosowski. She was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. She was very involved in school and popular with her many friends. She enjoyed dancing and participated eagerly in the dance program in her neighborhood and at block parties. She was, indeed, the life of the party.
She married her true love, Chester Moskal on September 10, 1955, and enjoyed 64 years of marriage before he passed in 2019. Soon after their marriage, they settled into their home in Yorkville, where they stayed for the remainder of their lives together. In their early years together, Eleanore concentrated on raising their growing family. She became an accomplished cook and made meals and desserts for her family, friends, neighbors, priests, and anyone in need. Her German potato salad, goulash, and blueberry coffee cake were favorites of the family. Later, she took a job in the office at Howland’s department store where she met lasting friends Florence Risley and Marsha Kukowski, whom she loved dearly and kept in touch with throughout retirement. She had so many friends, two who shared her enjoyment of the casino: Nora and Bernice; and Victoria Argen, who held a special place as friend and family. Her wonderful neighbors, in particular Craig and Kathy Miller, have been a big help to her and the family.
Eleanore wanted everyone to know that the best thing she ever did in her life was to have her six children. She is survived by; Chester Jr. (Cheri) Moskal, Michele (Dave) Gydesen, Peter (Joanne) Moskal, Susanne (Bill) Cloute, Juliann (John) Ashcroft, and Mary Beth (Frank) Cappelli. She also leaves behind twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Eleanore said before she passed that she could not have gotten through these last few months without her children and grandchildren, who have been a tremendous help and source of comfort to her. Eleanore was pre-deceased by her husband Chester Sr., her brothers Theodore and Michael, and sisters Jeannette, Ruth, and Carol.
