Obituary of Dawn Marie Carman

    Dawn Marie Carman, 62, of Rome, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Colonial Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Rome, NY, with her loving family by her side. 

     Dawn was born in Utica, on September 17, 1960, the daughter Richard A. and Ruth L. (Keiser) Schuff.  She was raised in Utica, was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and Utica School of Commerce.  Dawn was formerly married to Richard Carman.  She worked as a legal secretary in the Utica area.  Dawn was a member and past president of Whitestown American Legion Auxiliary Post 1113 and its color guard, member and past president of VFW Auxiliary post 2246, Rome NY, past president of Oneida County 40 & 8 in Oriskany and past president of Oneida County American Legion Auxiliary.  Dawn loved Christmas and her Christmas village display, she enjoyed crocheting and especially loved spending time with her cherished grandchildren who were the joy of her life. She was of the Catholic faith. 

     Dawn is survived by her three loving children, Amber Carman and her wife Jodi of Plattsburgh, NY, Mathew Carman of Fallon, NV and Candice Carman and Christian Montalvo of Utica; six cherished grandchildren, Addison, Favianny, Ruben, Sharay, Samantha and Orion and three sisters and one brother-in-law, Christine Schuff of Clark Mills, Teene Schuff of Utica and Patricia and William Laukaitis of Utica, as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Ruth and one brother, Duane Schuff.

     Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a prayer on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica.  She will be laid to rest with her parents and brother in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville.  Those wishing to make a donation in Dawn memory, please consider a veteran’s organization of your choice, as they were very dear to her heart.

     Dawn’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Colonial Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the wonder care and compassion you provided to her during her short time there.
