James A. “Jim” Gibbs, 60, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, New Hartford. Jim was born in Utica on Marcyoh 24, 1955, the son of Henry and Genevieve (Van Hatten) Gibbs. He was raised and educated locally and went on to serve his country with the US Army. On April 11, 1976, Jim married Joyce Gage. He was a truck driver for NYS Department of Transportation where he was nicknamed “Hooter”. Jim was a member of the Leon R. Roberts American Legion Post # 161, Holland Patent. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and boating. Jim was of the Catholic faith. Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce Gibbs, Bridgewater; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebekah and Edward Abbott, Cassville, Regina and Raymond Hagadorn, Bridgewater; one son, Robert Gibbs, Bridgewater; three grandchildren, Shadow Stephens, Justin Hagadorn and McKenzie Trinkaus; one great granddaughter, Sophia Morrison; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Cecilia Gibbs, Utica, Susan and Robert Greco, Utica, Elizabeth Gibbs, Utica; and one brother, Kenneth Gibbs, Sauquoit. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Gibbs’ funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 4 pm with Rev. David Orzel presiding. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica, from 2 – 4 pm, prior to the service. Those wishing may donate to the American Heart Association or The Kidney Society of the Mohawk Valley in Jim’s memory.
