Mr. Richard C. Zawatski, 85, of Schuyler, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica after a brief illness.  Richard passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side.

     Richard was born in Lowville, New York on March 23, 1938, the son of the late Benjamin W. and Stella (Brzozowski) Zawatski.  Richard was raised and educated in Martinsburg, NY and was a graduate of General Martin High School.  On November 8, 1958, Richard was united in marriage to Sharon A. Steph, a loving and devoted union of 49 years, until Sharon’s death on September 12, 2007.  Richard was employed for several years by Univac and then worked for MDS, Herkimer as an engineer until his retirement.  Richard enjoyed his garden and bought all sorts of gadgets.  He had a special love for dogs, especially for two K-9 companions Molly and Bessie.

     Richard is survived by his daughter Lisa Zawatski, Mohawk, NY, son Richard Zawatski, Jr. Boonville, NY, grandsons Jason Zawatski and his wife Sarah, Shawn Zawatski and his wife Mya, great grandchildren Emma Sharon, Nolan Richard Zawatski, Preston Robert, Ava Sophia, Ella Grace Zawatski, brothers Gary Zawatski and his wife Lou Ann, Benjamin Zawatski Jr. and his wife Marilyn, sisters-in-law Patricia Rich, Carol Roth and her husband Fred, Nancy Gazzal, Diana Goss and her husband Stephen,  several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by his sister-in-law Linda Mae Marmelstein.

     Richard’s family will gather privately at Heintz Services, Inc. 408 Herkimer Road, Utica, NY.  He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Sharon in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Woods Road, Whitesboro, at the convenience of the family.
