Obituary of Steven J Schaffer

     Steven was born in Syracuse, New York on August 11, 1958, the son of Eugene and Florence (Peters) Schaffer.  Steven was raised in Fabius, New York and was educated in Fabius Pompey Central School.  Steven proudly served in the US Army until honorable discharge.  He was united in marriage to Elisa Scalzi in November 1998, and she was his everything, she was his queen.  Steven was employed by New York State Canal Systems as a boat captain for 36 years until his retirement. Steven was certified for just about everything that has to do with water. At one time Steven enjoyed training horses in Rhode Island.  He was a very hard worker at anything he put his mind to.  He was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping anything to do with the outdoors and he loved to cook. 

     Steven is survived by his beloved wife Elisa, his mother Florence Schaffer, three brothers; Bill Schaffer and his wife Theresa, Mark Schaffer, Aaron Schaffer and his wife Candace,  six sisters; Beckey Strickland and her husband Daniel, Debbie Scutt and her husband Terry, Dawn Randall and her husband Walt, Wendy Streiff,  Brenda Nelson and her husband John, Dana Capeles and her husband Eddie, three sisters-in-law Linda Schaffer,  Rosemary Yero, Evelyn Malara. Steven was also an Uncle to multiple generations of nieces, and nephews. Also a special friend who was like a son to him Alejandro (Alex) Lopez. He was predeceased by his father Eugene Schaffer, Sr and a brother Eugene Schaffer, Jr.

      Steven’s funeral service for relatives and friends will take place at Heintz Funeral Service, Inc, 408 Herkimer Road, Utica, NY at 11AM Monday July 10th.  Visitation will take place prior to the funeral service from 9AM-11AM.  He will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, Oneida Street, Utica.
