Mr. John A. Gagnon, Sr. 85, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday July 4, 2023, at his residence.

     John was born in Utica August 30, 1937, the son of the late William and Edna (Hoole) Gagnon.  John was raised and educated in Utica all his life.  John attended Boys Trade School to learn the Vocation of Lead Burning.  This taught him great skill in being a machinist and fabricator.  He had a few jobs in his lifetime that he could use these traits such as General Dynamics Electric Boat, International Heater and his last was Mohawk Metals until his retirement.  On February 9, 1957, John was united in marriage to Cynthia M. Zdyb, a blessed union of 66 years.  They were devoted and faithful members of St. Joe’s St. Pats Church.  John was a lifelong Yankees fan and Utica Comets.  He enjoyed softball, hockey, harness racing, golf, hunting and fishing.

     John is survived by his beloved wife Cynthia, son John Gagnon, Jr and his wife Naomi, daughter Debra Schreck, adored grandchildren Josh Gagnon and his wife Erin, Justin Gagnon, great grandchildren his Angels Emma and Trevor Gagnon, siblings Roseanne and Jim Magee, Raymond Gagnon, Jacqueline and Butch King, Robert and Wanda Gagnon, sister-in-law Delores and George Anderson, sisters-in-law Dorothy Gagnon and Sharon Gagnon, and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by son-in-law Michael Schreck, brothers and sisters William Gagnon, James and Delores Gagnon, Joseph Gagnon, Edward Gagnon, Alice and Bert Hoole, Beatrice and William Palmer, Marylou and Pat Zenobio, Arlene and Joseph Appler and sister-in-law Rosemary Gagnon.

     Mr. Gagnon’s wishes were for his family to gather for a private service and at their convenience.  There will be No Calling Hours.  He will be laid to rest in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Woods Road, Whitesboro.

     Arrangements have been entrusted to Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., 1517 Whitesboro Street, Utica, NY.
