Obituary of Flora J. Longo

Please share a memory of Flora to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mrs. Flora J. Longo, 100, of Marcy, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the Hospice Abraham House in Rome, with her loving family by her side.

Flora was born in Utica, on November 11, 1922, the daughter of Thomas and Abbie (Witherall) Skuse. She was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. In Utica on May 21, 1955, Flora was united in marriage with Rocco A. Longo, a loving and devoted union of 44 years until Rocco’s passing in 1999.

Flora was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Mark’s Church in N. Utica. She always enjoyed vacations, spending quality time with family and friends, coffee and breakfast dates with her grandkids, reading books, watching Hallmark movies, and her favorite TV program, Wheel of Fortune. She especially loved playing bingo. Flora also enjoyed cooking for her family, and had a deep love for animals, and all animals loved her just as much. Wherever Flora was, there was always a dog or cat at her feet. Her most recent family pets, Sugar and Mia, were with her for over 17 years.

Flora's greatest joys in life were being a wife, mother, grandmother (affectionately known by family and friends as Nonnie) and great grandmother, whose family was the light of her life. To know Flora (Nonnie) was to love her, and she will always be remembered for her kind and gentle heart, calming presence and beautiful spirit.

Mrs. Longo is survived by her loving son, James Longo of Marcy, whom she resided with for the past 23 years; two cherished granddaughters, Alisa Eisnor and her husband Kyle of Marcy and Tressa Longo of Marcy; two adored great grandchildren, James Longo and Ashton Eisnor; four brothers and one sister-in-law, Thomas Skuse of Rochester, David Skuse of Utica, Robert and Shirley Skuse of Marcy and Richard Skuse of Utica; an especially close nephew, Rick Lange of AZ as well as many other loved nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Rocco and parents Thomas and Abbie, Flora was predeceased by her sister, Peggy Skuse, sister-in-law, Shirley Skuse and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Joseph Potenza and Phyllis and Richard Lange.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Mrs. Longo’s funeral Mass of Christian burial on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church, 440 Keyes Rd, N. Utica.  She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Rocco in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. In keeping with Flora’s wishes, there are no calling hours.
