-Evelyn J. Hurlbut, 91, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, with her loving daughter by her side. Evelyn was born in Utica on June 25, 1924, a daughter of Robert A. and Jennie (Jones) Bills. She was raised and educated in Utica and attended Utica Free Academy. Evelyn was employed with W. H. Devine Manufacturing for a time and then later she was a devoted and trustworthy housekeeper for several local families. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Utica, Senior Citizen Center of Utica, A.A.R.P., and Elderlife. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Charlene Longo of Cazenovia, NY, nieces and nephews, Bonnie Mallam, Janet and Dave Throop, Judith Sills, Tom Crenan and Daniel Salsbury, sister-in-law, Myra Miller, and several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by sisters, Ruth Salsbury, Mary Crenan and Geraldine Cudnik , brothers, Robert Bills and Charles (Chickie) Bills and nephews, Bill Salsbury and Tom Salsbury. A funeral service for Mrs. Hurlbut will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 4:00 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. A spring burial will take place in Glenside Cemetery, New York Mills. Calling hours at the funeral home are Saturday from 2-4. Those so wishing may make donations to the Humane Society in Evelyn's memory. Many many thanks to all Evelyn’s long time and dear friends, Irene Lehner, Sandra and Charles Madore and their children Susan and Stephen, Jane Martin, Mary Angelia and Jim Kernan, dear and special niece, Bonnie Mallam for her love and support, Janet and Dave Throop, Kathleen Salsbury, Tom Crenan, Charlene's sweetheart Peter Turkowski, Staff of the Brook Apts., especially Jody and Carley, neighbors, Mary Light, Kay Beretta and Fred Munson, Staff of the Senior Health Network, Home Health staff, Mary Shepisi and Tricia, the Utica Centro drivers whose humor and compassion were appreciated, Presbyterian Home Senior Day Care, Presbyterian Home Rehabilitation Center Aspen Unit, and the staff of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, especially 3 West Allen Calder Wing who truly live up to the hospital’s motto, “It's the People It's the Care”.
