Obituary of Frank Mondi, III
Frank Mondi, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4th, 2023, at St Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Son of the late Frank Mondi Jr. & Mary Fumarole (Mondi), Frank was born in Utica, NY on November 1st, 1940. Frank grew up in East Utica, and was educated in the local school system and graduated from Proctor High School in 1958. After graduation, Frank proudly served in the USA Navy and was honorably discharged in 1961. He loved his time in the Navy and camaraderie among the men on his ship.
On June 25th, 1966, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Frank was united in marriage to the former Judy A. Citek. Frank and Judy raised their children in South Utica, where the family had many happy memories.
Frank went to work at a very young age and followed in his father’s footsteps. He was a self-employed cattle buyer and Frank and his father ran a buying station in Homer NY for 30 years. Over his long career in business, he was affiliated and bought cattle for many different packing houses including Utica Veal, Robzens’ Inc, and most recently JBS USA. He loved the action of the auction and never considered his career a job. It was his life. Frank truly had a passion for his career of over 60 years. Through those many years, he made close friendships. Frank was also the owner of Mondi’s Market, on Albany Street in Utica NY, for many years.
Frank was dubbed the “grill master” and he wore the title proudly at all family functions. He was a lifelong member of the Social Athletic Club on Bleecker Street. Frank loved his family and friends and more than anything he loved spending time with them.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Judy; his two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael F. Mondi (of Utica), David M. Mondi & Mary (Vescio) (of Rome); one grandchild “the apple of his eye” Alyssa N. Clayton (of Rome); a brother and sister-in law, John A. and Mary Mondi (Kansas); a brother-in law, Thomas Stilwell (Florida); several nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren too numerous to mention
and special friends, Pete Greco and Frank Broccoli. He is predeceased by his sister Nicoletta Stilwell (Mondi) (Florida).
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Frank's Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Campus, 2222 Genesee St., Utica.
