Obituary of Charles S. Sheppard

    Mr. Charles S. Sheppard, 92, of Floyd, NY, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the Hospice Abraham House in Rome, with his loving family by his side.

     Charles was born in Gray, NY, on August 25, 1931, the son of Charles E. and Cynthia Anna (Bunce) Sheppard and attended Poland High School. On December 30, 1954, in Hallstead, PA, Charles was united in marriage with Violet Briggs.  At one time, Charles was employed with Harden’s Furniture, later as a diesel mechanic with Sears Oil Company, and most recently, as a self-employed well driller. Charles was a gifted woodworker and furniture maker, enjoyed working on old cars and was a member of Cross Point Southern Baptist Church in Whitesboro.

     Mr. Sheppard is survived by his beloved wife, Violet; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Don Symons of Rome, Valerie and Philip Root of Cold Brook, NY, a daughter Bridgette Sheppard of Canajoharie, NY, two sons and daughters-in-law, Kirk C. Sheppard (Pam) of Port Byron, NY, Keith A. and Judy Sheppard of MI and a son, Christopher Sheppard of Rome; son-in-law, Jason Kessler of Higginsville, NY, special friends Jeff and Judy Dauback of Rome, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Hope Sheppard; sister, Maeona Christman and three brothers, Allen, George (Buster) and Gerald.

     In keeping with Charles’ wishes, there are no calling hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a graveside service on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery, 8622 State Route 28, Poland NY.
