Obituary of Daniel M. Roemer

      Mr. Daniel M. Roemer, 85, of Utica, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Wynn Hospital, with his loving family by his side.

     Daniel was born in Utica, on May 10, 1938, the son of Joseph F. and Anne (Marsh) Roemer. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Daniel proudly served in the United State Army from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1959. On September 17, 1960, Daniel was united in marriage with the love of his life, Frances Hecox at St. Francis de Sales Church in Utica. For 27 years, Daniel was employed with The United States Postal Service retiring as a supervisor in 1991. For 20 years, he was a school bus driver with the New Hartford School District. Dan was a devout parishioner of Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Our Lady of The Rosary Campus in New Hartford and the former Sacred Heart Church in Utica. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 189 in NY Mills, was an avid bowler and a die-hard NY Yankees fan. Dan was also his sons’ minor league baseball coach, the unofficial scorekeeper for his grandson’s little league baseball teams and his greatest joy was spending time with his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the light of his life.

     Mr. Roemer is survived by his beloved wife, Frances; one daughter, Juliann Nedell (Matthew Goodrich) of Baldwinsville, NY; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Mark and Gail Roemer of Camillus, NY, Brian Roemer of N. Utica, Dan and Laurie Roemer of TX and Tim and Debbie Roemer of N. Utica; eight cherished grandchildren, Adam (Janessa) Roemer of Germany, Jeremy (Gabriela) Roemer of CA, Megan Bluem of TX, Vannesa (Brandon) Tanner of TX, Edward (Kara) Nedell of TX, Daniel Nedell of Liverpool, NY, Amanda Nedell of Baldwinsville, NY and Tessa Roemer of N. Utica; nine adored great grandchildren, Paige, Gianna, Luke, Hailee, Brooklynn, Kaden, Elora, Gabe and Asha and was anxiously awaiting the birth of his tenth great grandchild, Maverick. Three sisters, JoAnn Philpotts of Sauquoit, Donna Miller of Clayville, and Nancy Rose of Rome and one sister-in-law, Margaret Hecox of Utica, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Michele Marie Roemer; sister, Patricia Clicquennoi; brother, Charles Roemer; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James (June) Hecox, Charles “Pete” (Tillie) Hecox, Lawrence “Mike” Hecox, Robert Philpotts, Elinor (Stan) Kemp and Dorothy (Robert) Cox.

     Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Daniel’s funeral Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Our Lady of The Rosary Campus, Burrstone Rd., New Hartford. He will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Visitation for family and friends is Tuesday, November 28th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. In lieu of flowers, donations in Daniel’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
