Obituary of Richard Morris Atkinson

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard Morris Atkinson, 73, of Clinton, New York, died of long-term disability complications on November 17, 2023.

He was born in Utica, New York, in 1950, to Henry J. and Helen C. Atkinson.  Rich graduated from Whitesboro Central School before attending Mohawk Valley Community College to study Civil Technology.  He held several positions in the construction trade before starting his own company, Kordt Construction.  A devastating car accident ended Richard’s career leaving him permanently disabled.  Not one to dwell in the past, Rich never looked back asking “Why me?”.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Susan M. Atkinson, and is survived by a brother, William C. Atkinson (Christine), daughters Chelsey and Shelby, and son, Jason.

No formal services are planned.  A private family remembrance will be held next summer at Rich’s favorite place to be, the Saint Lawrence River.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Mohawk Valley, for their compassionate care of Richard in his final years.
